Virginia Tech enters 2021 with the most momentum the program has ever had after finishing the fall season ranked No. 4 in the country and having two players selected in the 2021 MLS Draft, including No. 1 overall pick Daniel Pereira.
Along with Pereira, senior Kristo Strickler was selected by the Houston Dynamo with the No. 30 pick in the draft. He became the sixth player from Virginia Tech to be drafted since head coach Mike Brizendine took control of the program in 2009 and ninth player in program history to be picked. Strickler, who came into the program as a walk-on, has accumulated 66 starts over four seasons and scored 27 goals.
In 2019, the Hokies tied a program record by qualifying for their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament.
Brizendine sits second in all-time wins at Tech and has seen 11 players receive All-ACC honors in 12 years at the helm in Blacksburg.
